Display and showcase cases put food in front of customers at the counter. This collection covers straight-glass refrigerated display cases, countertop cases, deli cases, sushi merchandisers, open grab-and-go merchandisers, round cases, a freezer showcase and non-refrigerated (neutral) display cases for bakeries, cafés, delis and convenience stores.

The current range is from EFI's Versa-Display and Versa-Chill lines. For glass-door coolers and freezers, see Merchandising Refrigerators & Freezers, or browse the full Refrigeration, Freezing & Ice Equipment section.

Types of display and showcase cases

  • Straight glass display cases: Floor models in black or stainless and several widths and heights, for pastries, desserts and prepared food.
  • Countertop display cases: Smaller straight-glass and sliding-glass cases that sit on an existing counter.
  • Deli cases: Straight deli cases in widths from 36" to 120", in black or stainless, for meats, cheeses and salads.
  • Sushi merchandisers: Low-profile black cases in 47–72" widths for sushi bars and grocery counters.
  • Open merchandisers: Open-front, slant and combo units for self-serve grab-and-go drinks and snacks.
  • Neutral display cases: Non-refrigerated cases for bread, baked goods and items that do not need cooling.
  • Round and freezer showcases: Round cases for cakes, and a straight-glass freezer showcase for frozen desserts.

What to consider when choosing a display case

  • Refrigerated, neutral or frozen: Match the case to what you sell: cream-filled pastries and deli items need refrigeration, bread does not, and ice cream needs a freezer case.
  • Service or self-serve: Service cases are loaded and served by staff; open merchandisers let customers help themselves and suit high-traffic grab-and-go.
  • Floor or countertop: Countertop cases fit small cafés; floor cases create a full service line.
  • Width and height: Measure the counter run and sight lines. Taller cases show more product but can block the view across the counter.
  • Shape and finish: Straight glass gives a modern look; curved or round cases are a classic bakery choice. Black or stainless finishes suit different interiors.
  • Ventilation and placement: Keep display cases away from direct sun and heat sources, and leave airflow clearance.

Frequently asked questions

What is a neutral display case?

A non-refrigerated case used to show products that are held at room temperature, such as bread and some baked goods.

Are open merchandisers suitable for all products?

They work well for packaged drinks and grab-and-go items. Products that need tighter temperature control are better in a closed service case.

Can a refrigerated display case store product overnight?

Display cases are designed for showing product during service. Many operators move product to a reach-in or walk-in overnight.
