Dutch ovens for braising and service

Dutch ovens are heavy, lidded pots for braises, stews, soups and bread, and many double as serving vessels. This collection includes Le Creuset round Dutch ovens in 4.2, 5.3 and 6.7 L sizes and several colours, G.E.T. Heiss cast aluminum round and oval Dutch ovens for tabletop service, a Lodge cast iron camp Dutch oven and Lodge parchment Dutch oven liners.

They suit bistros, hotels and catering where food goes from oven to table. Browse more cookware on the Pots & Pans page.

Types of Dutch ovens

  • Le Creuset round Dutch ovens: heavy lidded pots for slow braises and bread baking that also present well at the table.
  • Cast aluminum serving Dutch ovens: G.E.T. Heiss round and oval pieces that look like cast iron but are much lighter for buffet and family-style service.
  • Cast iron camp Dutch ovens: Lodge cast iron pieces for outdoor and live-fire cooking.
  • Dutch oven liners: Lodge parchment liners that speed cleanup for baked and braised dishes.

What to consider when choosing Dutch ovens

  • Cooking or serving: cast iron is for cooking on the range and in the oven; cast aluminum serving pieces are mainly for display and holding.
  • Capacity: match size to portions: around 4 L for small batches or two to four guests, 6 L and up for family-style or batch braises.
  • Weight: cast iron Dutch ovens are heavy; plan for handling in and out of hot ovens.
  • Lid fit: a tight lid keeps moisture in for long braises.
  • Care: avoid thermal shock and metal scouring pads on coloured or coated surfaces; season bare cast iron.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between a Dutch oven and a braiser?

A Dutch oven is deeper for soups, stews and bread. A braiser is wider and shallower so food sears and braises in a single layer; braisers are in Sauté Pans, Braziers & Covers.

Can serving Dutch ovens go on the range?

Check the product details. Cast aluminum serving pieces are generally intended for presentation and holding, not stovetop cooking.

Are these induction compatible?

Cast iron Dutch ovens work on induction. Cast aluminum pieces do not.
