Corkscrews, bottle openers and can punches

Every server and bartender needs a reliable way to open wine, beer and cans. This collection includes waiter's corkscrews, wing and lever corkscrews, flat and wall-mounted bottle openers, can punches and bottle cap catchers from Browne, Peugeot, Vollrath, Rabco, Spill-Stop, Edlund and Mercer.

It is part of Bar Supplies. Most operations keep a waiter's corkscrew in every server's apron and a wall-mounted opener at the beer station.

Types of corkscrews and openers

  • Waiter's corkscrews – Pocket-size corkscrews from Browne, Vollrath (including Pulltaps) and Mercer for tableside wine service.
  • Wing corkscrews – The Browne professional wing corkscrew, which uses two levers to draw the cork with little effort.
  • Lever and continuous-turn corkscrews – Peugeot Baltaz lever corkscrews with foil cutter and Salma continuous-turn corkscrews.
  • Flat and handheld bottle openers – Browne and TableCraft flat openers that fit in a pocket or speed rail.
  • Wall-mounted openers and cap catchers – Spill-Stop, Browne and Rabco wall-mounted openers and Spill-Stop stainless cap catchers for beer stations.
  • Can punches – Edlund and Browne can punch/bottle opener combinations for kitchen and bar use.

What to consider when choosing corkscrews and openers

  • Who uses it – Servers need a compact waiter's corkscrew; a bar or banquet team opening cases of wine may prefer lever or wing styles.
  • Hinged lever – Two-step or hinged levers reduce effort and help with long or stubborn corks.
  • Foil cutter – Built-in foil blades or cutters speed up tableside presentation.
  • Mounting – Wall-mounted openers with catchers keep caps off the floor at a busy beer station.
  • Durability – Look for stainless or chrome finishes for high daily use, and keep spares since corkscrews often walk off.

Frequently asked questions

What is a waiter's corkscrew?

A folding pocket corkscrew with a worm, a lever that rests on the bottle lip and usually a foil knife and cap lifter.

Are wing corkscrews good for busy bars?

They are easy to use with little training, though they are bulkier than waiter's corkscrews and less suited to carrying in an apron.

Why mount a bottle opener on the wall?

It keeps a fixed opener at the beer station, and models with a catcher collect caps so they do not end up on the floor.

What is a can punch used for?

It pierces cans of juice, milk or other liquids for pouring, and most also open bottle caps.
